The Tension Arch between Freedom and Obsession:
The initial impression one receives from Hong Sooyeon’s paintings is an extremely refined sense of density and sophisticated elegance. If one were to define this dimension within an aesthetic category, it undeniably strikes the viewer as being closely linked to the realm of grace and elegance. In her canvases, where layers of transparency are meticulously built up, not even the most infinitesimal lack—nothing that could be called a gap—is revealed in form, composition, or hue. Only the vivid manifestation of an obsessive pursuit of perfection is clearly etched into the work. This, in turn, intensifies the "sovereign isolation" (獨存性) of her art.
