Installation View at Song Art Gallery

The works presented in Sooyeon Hong’s solo exhibition, held at Song Art Gallery from March 8th to 29th, are predominantly monochromatic. While she previously explored a diverse palette of reds, greens, and blues, in recent years, she has mastered a sophisticated screen that emphasizes the delicate tonal transitions of achromatics. By layering paint upon the canvas and refining the surface to a glass-like smoothness, she then introduces soft, ambiguous forms. The final image is constructed through an arduous and rigorous process of pouring paint and tilting the canvas—allowing the medium to flow horizontally over time—a method that demands absolute concentration and permits not a single error. A piece is completed only after repeating this meditative, ascetic process countless times.
